Prior to the appointment as WHO Representative to the European Union, Dr Oxana Domenti served as Senior Advisor to the WHO Regional Director for Europe on multilateral affairs. Before joining the World Health Organization for Europe, she served as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UNOG, WTO and other international organisations in Geneva and Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Switzerland.
She was a member of the Moldovan Parliament (2009-2017) and served as President of the Parliamentary Health and Social Security Committee. As parliamentarian, she also chaired the European and Central Asian Branch of the Global Parliamentary TB Caucus. Prior to her parliamentary activity, she served as adviser to the President of the Republic of Moldova on social development issues (2003- 2009). During this period, she was also member of the Governing Board of the National Health Insurance Company and of the National Social Security Agency.
Throughout her career, Dr Domenti contributed to the development of social and health policies at the national and regional levels, particularly in the area of health financing, tobacco control, TB, PHC, access to medicines.
Dr Domenti is an Associate Professor of Health Financing at the School of Public Health Management at the Medicine and Pharmacy State University “Nicolae Testemiteanu”. She also taught Investments and Financial Policies at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.
She holds a PhD and MSs degrees. She received her academic training in Economy at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, in European Social Security at the KU Leuven, Belgium, and in Public Health at the University of London, United Kingdom.
